Retired K9 Bela

Bela #Z524 served for seven years as an Explosive Detection Police K9. After retiring in 2025, she went from working beside me every day to coming with me everywhere I could take her and that’s when I started noticing how hard it can be to know which places actually allow dogs. That experience inspired No Pet Policy. Today, Bela and I visit pet-friendly businesses, build free guides and maps to help dog owners find places to go, and create products for pets and their people that help keep us on the road discovering more.No Pet Policy was created to honor the dog who spent seven years of her life serving beside me and to make her retirement one hell of an adventure.

NO PET POLICY™ IS MORE THAN A BRAND.Some of us are lucky enough to know that a dog is so much more than a pet. They are family, companions, and part of the memories that make up our lives. The places that welcome our dogs give us more opportunities to share those moments together and we believe those places are worth celebrating. That’s why we find them, share them, and help other dog owners find them too.

FROM RETIRED K9 BELA:

Today I close a chapter of service and open one filled with love. For years, I served as an Explosive Detection K9. I worked with purpose and loyalty to protect lives. I stood beside my handler every step of the way, but I was never just a uniform or a tool. I was a soul with feelings, with joy, with love and with hope to do what was right. Now, in this new chapter, my mission has changed. My new purpose is to inspire more places to welcome pets, and more hearts to open to us. I want every person and every space to remember we are not just tools, not just possessions, and not just animals. We are souls with feelings and emotions, and we are true life companions.Thank you for honoring me today and for joining me in this new path.
My name is Bela, and though my working days are over, my legacy has only just begun.

WHY WE STARTED NO PET POLICY

No Pet Policy started with one thing: I wanted Bela's name and her service to live on long after her police career ended, and to turn this new chapter of our lives together into something meaningful. When Bela retired from her job as an Explosive Detection Police K9, I retired shortly after. For the first time, she was finally mine and we were free to go places together. The only problem? I had no idea where to go or which places actually welcomed dogs. That became the beginning of her legacy: finding and sharing places where dogs can be part of everyday life. Because finding a place to eat, grab a coffee, grab a beer, stay for the night, or spend the day with your dog shouldn’t be so damn hard! When your dog is with you, you’re not watching the clock or rushing home (at least not me). You can just enjoy the moment together. No Pet Policy is for Bela: to recognize her seven years of service, to keep her story alive, and to make her retirement one hell of an adventure!
